On Monday, we got to watch the community performance of Dark Before Dawn, Miles' award-winning marching band show, which took Metcalfe County High School to the State finals for the first time ever. Miles was AWESOME!
The missionaries Elder Payne and Elder Vakalahi came to watch as well. We decided to go get ice cream, sundaes, McFlurry, or some other McDonald 's-based treat. Unfortunately, they were not serving ice cream. So people ended up ordering either cookies, hamburgers, fries, or sodas instead. What can we say? In Edmonton, our options are limited.
On Wednesday we went to Brother Smith's woodshop and got to make 3D Christmas trees, which was a huge hit with our youth group.
On Thursday was a park day for the homeschool co-op, and Ellie was pretty excited because Benjamin and Sarah Fedor rode along with us, and they got ot get Chick-fil-A on the way home. Ellie explained it was a fabulous day because of how many trees she climbed, and a large fortress wall that she and Sarah constructed out of pine needles, which eventually they threw at Benjamin and his friends.
Ellie and I made dinner on Friday. We made salmon, salad, and mashed potatoes. Matt explicitly told her that she couldn't be like Snow White and invite animals in to help cook. Next thing we knew, Socks had snuck in the kitchen and was frantically licking mashed potatoes off the dirty beaters...so glad she did not go for the salmon or the bowl of mashed potatoes instead! So Snow White Ellie was forced to kick out her animal helper...
On Sunday was the primary program. Ellie did a wonderful job. She sang a duet of "The Miracle" with Sarah Fedor, and then gave a talk on miracles. She talked about the ten lepers and the miracle of her birth. It was so beautiful. With cold freezing weather on the forecast tonight, Ellie and I harvested all of our carrots and brought them in. There were a surprisingly large amount. With only three days to go until we drive to New Orleans we are all getting super excited for our awesome adventure!
