Costa Maya

By lunch time, we had docked at Costa Maya. We don't have a ton of pictures from this day because our excursion was a guided snorkeling tour, but we did snap a few pics.
When we first got off the boat, we found some Costa Mayans dressed up in some Native American costumes that let you take pictures with them. Ian, who truly and deeply loves ancient Meso-American history, was thrilled.
We hopped on the tour bus with our group and were taken to a boat with glass-bottom portions. Our guide explained how this coral reef is the second largest in the world. Once we got out deep enough, we put on our snorkel gear and headed out. Ellie was at first super mad that she had to wear a life jacket, but after being tossed around by the waves for a few minutes, she decided that it probably was a good idea after all. We had a really terrific guide who managed to show us the coral reef, a couple of jellyfish, a cuddly fish, and the crowning moment was when we got to see a sea turtle.

Afterwards, we were taken to a beach where they were selling Gelato! Ellie played in the sand. Liam snuck over to a shop, grabbed a loud noise-making plastic item, and blew on it so loud that the shopkeeper's dog got scared and ran away. I ran over, apologized to the owner, explaining Liam had autism (I had practiced my Spanish for just such an occasion), and then bought the darn toy. I then hid it, so he could not use it again on the cruise, explaining to him that he could only use it at home in Kentucky.
