Summer Starts With Swimming

This summer we decided to put all three boys into swimming lessons at the South Davis Recreation Center in Bountiful Utah.

We specifically wanted to go there because they have an adaptive aquatics program that allows children with special needs to have a one on one teacher at the same rate as the group lessons for the other kids. Once a month for the three months of summer the kids had two weeks of swim lessons.

Liam loved swim lessons and by the end he could swim multiple laps back and forth across the pool by himself. As promised since he was able to accomplish his summer goal he was able to buy a wet suit.

By the end of the summer Miles was willing to put his under the water, flail his legs, and venture where he had previously been afraid to go in the swimming pool. His success at the end of the summer earned him a new soccer ball.

By the end of the summer Ian could actually swim a few feet by himself before sinking and overcame all fear of the water. This magnificent feat earned him a new soccer ball as well.

You may ask why the soccer ball? Well Liam really wanted a wet suit and Matt promised him one. This meant that Ian and Miles also wanted a wet suit. I talked them into soccer balls since I can't help but feel that wet suits are not a very practical think in land locked Utah.

What was Ellie doing all this time? She got in a swim suit and played in the shallow end of course. You can't keep that little fish out of the water.
