On Sunday Matt and I pulled our exhausted sore bodies out of bed and decided to hike an even longer hike.
Everyone had recommended we hike at Jenny Lake. So we hiked three miles in and three miles out to see the hidden waterfall. This time we wisely brought snacks which kept the kids moving through some strenuous trails.
Although we did not take any pictures of them we did have some wildlife run ins. We walked past a black bear with her two cubs. Liam attempted to whistle to them to get them to notice him...he was quickly discouraged from this past time. We also watched as a giant male moose wandered across the path. We kept the kids back and had them sit down and watch...quietly. Ellie (who has a passionate love of all animals) begins pointing from the hiker on my back and announcing loudly "BABY! BABY!". Yes, Ellie, a 2 ton baby with antlers is 10 feet away. Thank you.
Throughout the hike we had a great view of Jenny Lake.
At length we made it to the waterfall which was very beautiful.
This entailed some posing from children.
Miles decided not to pose in front of the waterfall since he was in trouble for attempting to push Liam over the waterfall in a fit of 5 year old rage.
Liam didn't mind. He was so thrilled we'd reached the waterfall, mostly because it meant he could turn around and go back to the hotel.
The hike back was (as it always seems to be) much faster than the hike there. We headed back to the hotel and much to the joy of my children we ordered pizza for dinner and watched movies on Netflix on Matt's tablet. We loved our vacation to the Grand Tetons. Miles told me he loved the hotel and wanted to live there. Shudder, the hotel was fine; four kids in the hotel room with me...less so.
Sounds like a great trip with some close calls with wildlife. Maybe a little too close!
