After many years of not being near enough a Scottish Festival to attend we were finally able to go to a Scottish Festival again! We were so excited. We were totally unprepared for it to be raining and cold the whole day. We are a lot more used to Texas summers that come in hot and hotter.
Liam initially was furious about having to come, but by the time he saw someone in full armor he reconciled. Ian and Miles both insisted on buying some toy swords. They played with them while we hid out from the rain in the Wicked Tinker (a Scottish music band) tent. We also feasted on funnel cakes smothered in strawberries and cream and one that was covered in s'mores toppings.
Ellie devoured most of our funnel cakes where as Liam objected to us buying them at all.
In between rain storms we went out and explored the festival.
The boys were pretty excited to find our name in the Clan Donald list.
Mostly Matt and I were just thrilled to share something with our children that we did when we were first engaged.
We bundled up in Ellie's "baby" (aka her knitted blanket) to watch the bag pipers march in (The Mass Bands), listen to their long speeches, and watch the parade of the clans.
Ellie picked out an adorable princess crown headband. I'm glad we got a picture of her wearing it because she lost it before we got home.
The mass bands are always impressive and the kids liked it. Liam covered his ears.
After the Scottish festival we went over to farm country so that Ellie could see all her favorite things (bunnies, ducks, any animal that exists etc...)
We had a lot of fun, but we aren't sure if we will make the trip to the Scottish Festival next year since this year was the last one at Thanksgiving Point. Next year the Festival is moving to the Fair Grounds.
Great fun. Great music. Too bad Liam has not learned to appreciate the sound yet.
