We went through all the rigmarole of trying to get Lisa referred to Metroplex. Miles had been born there and Lisa knows the staff there pretty well; all to no avail. So, as the due date approached we were resigned to making CRDAMC the place of her debut.
Lisa had been on the list for inductions and was scheduled for Wednesday, February 25th. They had no room and continued not to have room until Friday the 27th. Lisa called me as I was sitting down to lunch with a coworker and I raced home and picked her up and drove her in to the hospital, all still in my uniform. We didn't want anyone to have an excuse to push this off any further. We were also fortunate to have my mother here at the time so we didn't have to arrange any babysitting. The boys happily partied and were excited that they would soon see the little sister that they had been anticipating.
It was a slow start for Elaina. The room was nice but it didn't have a DVD player and we had forgotten the laptop so all the DVDs Lisa had packed proved useless. We resorted to watching cable (SOOOO glad I don't waste money on cable TV) and managed to find Ghost Busters.
At 9:30 pm, things started happening faster. By 10:30 things had started happening really fast, and by 11:50, Lisa was ready to start pushing. The resident from San Antonio actually delivered her at 11:57 (don't be fooled by the birth certificate, the OB on there stopped in for a maximum of 3 minutes.)
She came out crying and sputtering and slimy just like the boys did, though with a noticeable difference. Any fears Lisa had of having bought pink and purple outfits for nothing were immediately put to rest. I snipped the cord and helped wipe her down and held her. As always, it was an awesome feeling holding that little princess in my arms standing next to her beautiful mother. What a wonderful addition she is to our little family!
