October 25 Liam had a pack meeting scheduled at a local pumpkin patch. This made for a new and more interesting pack meeting. Ian and Miles were allowed to come along, much to their delight and got to take home two very small pumpkins and go on a hay ride.
Most of the time they spent their energy running around and climbing over pumpkins. Since pumpkins are expensive at pumpkin patches they were only allowed the miniature ones. We did go, right after the pack meeting, to Wal-Mart where the kids picked out four decent sized pumpkins.
The kids had a great time. Matt had me lead the cub scouts in some Halloween-esque songs. Miles saw his best friend David (a younger brother of another cub scout) and was screaming his name excitedly. Miles was especially excited to sit next to David on the hay ride.
It's often the simple things in life that are truly enjoyable. A little pumpkin patch, a parking lot tractor pulled hay ride, and some Halloween songs are all it takes to make them feel that they've had an exciting night out.
