Naturally the very first thing to do in Utah on the 24th of July (or pioneer day) is to go to the carnival in Bountiful. It involves carnival food, and over priced carnival rides, and all the things I loved so much as a child.
My kids were no different. Dressed in color coordinating clothes (so they would be easy to locate) I navigated the crowds with my little motely crew. In and out of bounce houses, tiny ferris wheels, go fish ponds, and teepees we toured them all.
Of course everyone was allowed to pick out a treat. This involved nachos for every single boy. Miles had his without cheese; because he doesn't like cheese. He tells me he likes nachos; he just doesn't like cheese. If you try to explain to him that nachos without cheese are just chips he explains that he likes chips and that these are "nacho" chips...okay Miles you win.
After the carnival we took a trip down to Thanksgiving Point so we could go to the kids museum there. All the kids had a marvelous time. We got to play with cousins and get soaking wet (which in a Utah July is an added bonus).
Ellie even got to play in the water table thanks to the little kid seats that they provide.
Ian wore his swanky hat that he won at a random game at the 24th of July day carnival. He loved playing in the water works complete with rain slicker.
Of course no one loves Thanksgiving Point more than Liam. At the end of the day we had a very exhausted group of children, my favorite kind. Unfortunately I wasn't in much better shape.
