This year we decided to do something extra special for Christmas. We decided to take a ride on the Polar Express in Heber, UT.
The boys were all super excited. They love the book and the movie. I love the book...just the book. As a special fun treat we had Maga with us too! This was especially nice since Ellie was not thrilled with the late nights. We brought lots of warm coats and gloves since we had been warned that the train did not have any central heating. Turns out the train had over head heating areas...we were directly below one. Not only did we strip our winter gear, but had to keep opening the window. There was hot chocolate and cookies too; which the kids really enjoyed.
There was a lot of Christmas caroling going on which was fun and the train had lots of decorations. We sprung for first class; which got us...fancier presents and we got to see Santa first.
Santa came on board after reaching the "North Pole" which turned out to be a cardboard cut out style minimal "village". Ian took one look and asked, "That's the North Pole?" with a serious sarcastic bewilderment. We had to explain that no it was not the real north pole just a fun pretend one. He felt better then. We ended up getting fancy sleigh bells, a nice mug, and a really great time. The kids jangled theirs nonstop. Ellie loved hers especially!
We had a great time at the Polar Express. It was a one time sort of experience, but a great time was had by all and we're glad we went.
