A new event that we decided to try out this year was "Eat Like A Pilgrim" at Thanksgiving Point. It involved an authentic pilgrim meal complete with activities, interactive characters, and entertainment. We decided to only take the two older boys this year.
Right off the bat the boys were charmed by the pilgrim ambience and a conquistador style character that came over and started talking to and teasing the boys.
They had pilgrim "board" games, armor you could try on, you could get your name written with a quill and ink in a calligraphy style, and various models and pictures.
Ian could hardly lift the sword. There were also a few animals that you could go see.
The boys are of course always keen on animals. While looking at a furry friends a turkey next door gave a giant gobble which drove Liam shrieking into my arms.
He thought it was pretty funny when he realized it was a turkey.
The boys loved hanging out in the stocks, but they liked it even better when someone else was in it.
Before feasting on the pork and turkey they had to shoot them. Several young men were called up, had costumes put on and practiced "shooting turkeys".
They had a really cool model of the Mayflower as well as a lot of neat looking artifact look a likes.
One of the characters sat near the boat so that they could explain the voyage, how many people survived and what the living conditions were like. "Eat Like a Pilgrim" was a huge success. We will definitely go next year and will probably even be willing to bring Miles along, but unless Ellie learns to sit and eat like a child instead of chimp she will be staying with a babysitter.
