For the second day of our adventure we drove up to Yellowstone. Unfortunately traffic was so bad that it took an additional hour to get to Old Faithful and the visitors center AFTER we got to Yellowstone itself. It was very crowded. We did get to see some bison, but since those are on Antelope Island we didn't feel the need to get out of the care and gather close around them for a selfie, the way some tourists did.
There was a fun little visitor's center that the boys got to explore, but it was crowded enough that I get claustrophobic and was pretty happy to go outside, but not before stamping our passport book and getting magnet!
Once outside we hiked around Old Faithful.
There were several sulfur hot springs as we walked around and the boys were intrigued by their brilliant colors. They were mildly disgusted by the smell.
It was a little chilly which felt pretty great after years and years of excessive heat.
And of course there was that magical moment when we got to see the iconic Old Faithful erupt. The boys were ecastatic. I count begin to count the number of times that Miles and I had to discuss the difference between a volcano and a geyser. Pretty sure he still doesn't get it, but the geyser was pretty awesome. I vaguely recall coming to Yellowstone as a child, but Matt and the boys had never been. It was pretty exciting.
Unfortunately it was too crowded for us to do more than that and we headed back to Idaho Falls to spend the night.
