On the last day of our fun Labor Day Weekend we decided to go to the Craters of the Moon National Park. We'd never even heard of it before, but found it in our National Park Passport book. It turned out to be pretty awesome. None of the hikes were too hard, there were fun volcanic craters rocks, and caves to be explored and best of all it wasn't crowded.
A lot of the hikes consisted of flat trails that rounded volcanic rock formations. On some of these flat trails you could climb down into some caves that you could explore. The boys were pretty big fans of those. Some nice strangers actually lent them a flashlight so they could explore a little bit. They would have been fairly restricted without them.
The little boys had their walking sticks which they seemed to think were helpful. I mostly found them annoying, but I managed to not throw them away...so gold star for me.
Ian was a little dissapointed that none of the craters we climbed up to had real lava in them. He couldn't get over the fact that these volcanoes were too old to have lava. He kept begging us to show him one with real lava.
Liam seemed to enjoy it although he got a little lazy towards the end and wanted us to carry him...that wasn't happening. Much like his younger brothers his aches and woes were forgotten when given the chance to explore a cave.
Ellie got to model some of her fall wear clothing. She looked adorable. After a fun three day family vacation we headed wearily back home to return to work and school. Nothing is better then getting spend time with your family in God's beautiful creations.
