Almost Like Home

Matt made a small local discovery when he found there was a county museum only ten miles or so away from us, and best of all it was free. We decided to check it out. Matt insisted that it closed at noon so we hustled down there by ten. It turns out that it opens at noon. This could have been an autism disaster, but as it turns out it was really fortuitous for just down the street we found that there was a really awesome Belton Market Days. It sort of reminded me of a small raspberries day.

There was a free bounce house which the kids loved. There were free balloons, face painting, and water. There were also a bunch of fun vendors that were either part of the main street business, farmers market, or a fundraiser bake sale.

Since we were there at ten the heat wasn't unbearable yet and the kids had a great time jumping around getting super sweaty. There was one "hulk" style kid we had to watch, that apparently had no parents, and thought jumping on top of unsuspecting children to "take them down" was entertaining. It made Miles cry, Ian fight back, and Liam ignored him (he couldn't take Liam down).

We perused the markets, took a water break, and enjoyed the music (except for Liam who felt the music was much too loud).

Ian got a balloon sword that popped twenty minutes later because he kept repeatedly hitting the burning hot sidewalk with it.

We took the time to explore downtown Belton and found that it is a remarkably pretty area. It turns out that if you get away from the "Hood" there some actually nice areas that people care about and maintain.

We also got some free cheap leis which Ian put around his waist did the hula and chanted "Unga Unga Unga" repeatedly. We did finally make it to the museum and for being a very small town museum, it was charming. The staff was particularly nice and quite excited that we were there.

By the end of our adventures the kids were all exhausted but particularly poor little Miles. It turns out that there is a Market Days event once each month and is generally themed for that month. What an awesome find! I can't wait to see what they have for Halloween and Christmas.
